Building a Website the Easy Way

March 20th, 2010

Being an entrepreneur, I was anxious to stake my claim on the web and join the community of those who were making a living online. The only problem was, I didn’t have a clue how to build a website or the patience or time to learn all that code.

So, what did I do? I started a search for an easy website creator. My thinking was surely some ambitious entrepreneur had already realized the earnings potential of a website builder for the do-it-yourself person? As you can probably guess, I found one. Well, actually, I found quite a few. Of course, back then there weren’t nearly as many options on the fiber optic highway as there are today…so my selection was a bit limited when compared to today’s market. Back then was approximately six years ago, which at the speed of changing technology might as well have been the ice age.

I made my selection and started building a website. Was it easy? No. Remember I was inexperienced and soon learned that not all site builders are alike. My first attempt was definitely with a stone age product in a modern day world. Believing that all products, from a well-known company, are surely quality was my first mistake. While this company offered several affordable services and quality products, their easy website builder wasn’t one of them.

I began my search again. This time, however, I relied on the feedback from other website builders like myself. Hence, ask someone who has already been there, done that. After garnering a few referrals, I set out to try the mentioned services and finally settled on one.

Am I happy with my choice? Absolutely! So happy in fact I saved my money, earned on the web, and purchased a partner’s program with the company. You see, I was referring so many people to their services, I finally wised up and realized I might as well be earning from all those referrals….and now I am.

After much trial and error, I did learn a few important keys to online success and building a website. Here are a few tips to help you get started and stake your claim on the world wide web:

-Target your market. Don’t try to be a website for everything. Find your niche and fine tune your site to match.

-Stay away from dark background colors and wallpaper. Keep your site clean and easy to navigate.

-Add quality content. Keep your site content fresh and updated.

-Quality link exchanges do work. Exchange links with websites that fit the demographics of your site. Stay away from link farms.

Now that you have your website online, marketing and maintaining your site will be the key. It’s not like the movie, “The Field of Dreams – If you build it, they will come.” If you don’t market your website, guess what? They don’t come. It’s that simple.

Marketing is such a big and hot topic that I won’t go into it in this article, however, I do suggest doing a search on the web for keywords, “website marketing.” You will discover there are millions of responses and endless information and debate on what is the best solution. My experience: there is simply no one solution for this issue as the internet is ever changing and updating. Make time to read and learn about marketing your business online and locally. There are many great resources on the web which can help you stay informed and updated.

How I Fixed My Hair Loss Due to Thinning Hair

March 17th, 2010

I always had fine hair but my hair didn’t really start to thin out until I was 35 or so and at first it that was rather slowly and basically unnoticeable till I hit 40. Even then it was not too bad and I still could cover it up a bit. However, my hair got thinner and thinner and the good looking women I always attracted, somehow didn’t seem to be as attracted. Whether this was because my self confidence felt lowered because of my hair loss, my actual hair loss or both, I can’t really say. Let’s forget about the working on your personality part and get real. That mainly works on TV and the movies but not as much as people want you to believe, in real life. For the next 10 years I joined Hair Club for Men and their hairpieces looked great, I had regained my confidence and I had a great looking girlfriend, but at 50 I took an early retirement and could no longer afford the $450-550, or so a month I was spending on Hair Club for Men. But for those of you who have the money, I’d personally recommend them as a viable alternative to actual hair.

A Picture is Worth a 1000 Words

So I had the hairpiece removed and I looked like utter crap. My hair had thinned off beyond belief. I’ve crudely put Before & After photos on Pictures 1 and 3 were taken of me about 3 months after I had my hairpiece removed. A link to these pictures is at the bottom of the article, labeled “Before and After”. I looked like total crap, especially in the front. These Before Pictures were taken of me with a Polaroid and were not professionally shot, posed, lighted or anything. 100% genuine. Pictures 2 and 4, the After Pictures are me and my natural hair taken three years later by cell phone again not professionally shot, posed or lighted, etc. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day, I can’t emphasize that enough and I didn’t wake up with more hair the next day. By trial and error, I’ve been using the following exact regiment of retail products and prescriptions from my Doctor:

Propecia 1MG a Day at 6:30 at night.
Extra Strength Unscented Rogaine Non-Foam, twice a day, when I wake up and before I go to Bed. Note, I put Rogaine on after I shampoo but I do not use a hair dryer, I towel dry my hair. My hair this way looks natural and does not look greasy. Out of curiosity, at one time, I tried for a few months using a prescription for a higher dosage of Minoxidal but didn’t see any improvement and it made my hair look greasy so I went back to the Extra Strength Rogaine. For all I know, the Rogaine Foam might work just as well, I just am not about to change a working combination.
Before I go go to sleep, I use the Amazing Laser Brush, which is a laser brush this guy sells on Ebay, and recomb my hair normally for about a minute or 2. I think the guys instructions say a different method, but this is what I do. I do this before I put the Rogaine on. This is the only time I use this brush but I do it just once a Day. Note, I don’t know this guy nor do I have any financial interest in him or his Product. Laser brushes sell for a lot of money and this brush was affordable to me as it cost me around $110 give or take. This is just my unsolicited consumer recommendation.
I use Nioxin Bionutrient Protectives Cleaners as my regular shampoo which you can get from a Hair Salon. Once or twice a week I use Selsun Blue Menthol Medicated Dandruff shampoo, instead.
I also have my hair colored once every 6 weeks or so and don’t go under the dryer when doing this. I think hair coloring also thickens the hair a bit.

Please remember, this is my routine and it may not work for you. If you do decide to use Rogaine (which is over the counter) just make sure from your physician that you can use it, the same with Propecia (which is a prescription drug). Do not toss caution to the wind. Play safe, Once you do start with a program, I would follow it consistently through for at least6 months. I’m guessing that you will start to see a little improvement in 2-4 months and if you haven’t seen any improvement in 6 months, you might want to reevaluate things. Wishing you the best of success.
